CIL and AM Green Forge Landmark Renewable Energy Partnership for Green Ammonia Production – EQ

In Detail : Coal India Limited (CIL) and AM Green have entered into a significant partnership to supply 4,500 MW of renewable energy, making it one of India’s largest green energy agreements. The energy will support AM Green’s green ammonia production facilities, a critical step in the nation’s transition toward cleaner energy solutions. This collaboration also plays a key role in India’s renewable energy and decarbonization objectives.
The renewable energy supply will be sourced from a mix of solar and wind power. CIL plans to develop solar capacities ranging from 2,500 MW to 3,000 MW and wind capacities between 1,500 MW and 2,000 MW. The total investment for these projects is estimated at approximately ₹25,000 crore. The solar plants will be established in states like Gujarat and Rajasthan, known for their strong sunlight, while wind projects will be located in southern states.
To ensure a steady and reliable energy supply, AM Green plans to integrate the renewable energy sources with pumped hydro storage systems. This integration is designed to maintain uninterrupted power for the green ammonia production facilities, ensuring a consistent energy flow, crucial for the production processes that depend on steady supply.
AM Green, backed by the founders of Greenko Group, has an ambitious target of producing 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030. This goal aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to produce 1 MTPA of green hydrogen by the same year. The partnership is integral to fulfilling both these ambitious renewable energy targets.
The collaboration between CIL and AM Green represents a significant step toward India’s energy and environmental goals.
