SRINAGAR –  Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari today inaugurated restored 100 KV solar power plant and Girls hostel block at Government Polytechnic College, Bemina and also laid the foundation stone of residential quarters for the College faculty there.

The Minister also inaugurated workshop-cum-classroom block there and released the College’s first annual magazine ‘The Sparkle’.

It was said that the hostel can accommodate 150 students, besides the College administration has restored several other infrastructural works that got damaged in 2014-floods including computer labs as well.

On the occasion, the Minister inspected hostel rooms to get first-hand appraisal of the facilities being provided to the students there.

The Minister also passed directions to the concerned to ensure basic amenities to the students and also make arrangements for safe drinking water, free Wi-Fi facility, and heating arrangements at the hostel.

He also asked the concerned to develop volleyball and basketball courts and table tennis and other sports amenities at the College. He also stressed on college administration to provide necessary coaching to the students in their selected sports field.

Taking review of the transport facility being provided to the students, the Minister said that two buses will be provided for safe travel of female students.

The Minister was accompanied by the Director Sports, Director Technical Education, Secretary State Board of Technical Education and other concerned.

Later, Ansari visited Wussan Pattan and felicitated football tournament participant teams with cash reward of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for winning and runner-up teams respectively.

DC Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, SSP Baramulla, Director Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Joint Director Sports, Planning, Football Association President, Zameer Thakur and other officers were present on the occasion.

The tournament, a first of its kind in the area, was organized by the Minister with an aim to promote games and unearth talents from the remote parts of the area.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that such activities will help in bringing out local talents who can be groomed for representing the State at the national and international level.

He directed officers to identify land for construction of playfields in the area in order to promote sports culture in the area. He asked the concerned that the outer boundaries of the playfield at Wussan be fenced.

He reiterated Government’s commitment to provide better sports facilities to the youth in general and sports aspirants in particular.
