Prince Charles visited the site of a joint Cuban-British solar power project in the town of Artemisa west of Havana on Tuesday (March 26).
Charles stood next to Cuban Vice President Ramiro Valdes as he cut a symbolic ribbon at the renewable energy plant.
Andrew MacDonald, the CEO of Havana Energy said Charles’ visit was “significant” to the U.K.-Cuba bilateral relationship, as well as for business relations between the two countries.
Prince Charles and Camilla’s trip marks the first official trip by the British royal family to Cuba even as Britain’s top ally the United States seeks to isolate the island nation.
