In Short : RITES and CMPDI have signed a strategic MoU to jointly explore opportunities in mining, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects both in India and abroad. The collaboration combines RITES’ engineering and transport expertise with CMPDI’s strengths in geological and environmental planning. Together, they will work on feasibility studies, consultancy services, and project development in the energy and mining sectors.

In Detail : RITES Ltd. and Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd. (CMPDI), a subsidiary of Coal India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly pursue mining and energy-related projects. The agreement was formalized on July 23, 2025, in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

This strategic collaboration aims to tap into opportunities across the mining, renewable energy, and infrastructure sectors. The scope of work will include both domestic and international markets, expanding the reach and impact of both public sector enterprises.

RITES, known for its transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering services, will bring its technical, project management, and logistics expertise to the partnership. The company has a strong presence in railway and urban transport solutions, which will be leveraged for project execution.

CMPDI, on the other hand, offers deep knowledge in geology, mine planning, and environmental assessments. Their experience in coal sector planning and exploration will be essential for identifying viable project sites and ensuring compliance with regulatory norms.

The MoU outlines joint efforts in conducting feasibility studies, preparing detailed project reports, and delivering technical consultancy services. This collaboration will enhance the ability of both organizations to offer end-to-end solutions in the energy and mining space.

Renewable energy development is a key focus area. With India pushing for increased clean energy adoption, both entities aim to contribute to solar, wind, and hybrid projects, especially in areas with mining potential and surplus land availability.

The partnership also includes provisions for knowledge sharing, skill development, and technology exchange. This will help build technical capabilities and foster innovation within the two organizations as they navigate new and complex projects.

Both RITES and CMPDI see this agreement as a step toward supporting India’s broader goals of energy transition, self-reliance, and sustainable infrastructure growth. Their combined strengths are expected to unlock new synergies and create scalable, environmentally responsible projects.

As implementation begins, the two companies will identify specific ventures and areas of cooperation, guided by technical feasibility, commercial viability, and policy alignment. The partnership marks a new chapter in inter-PSU collaboration for nation-building.
