Saurashtra–Kutch Emerges as the Powerhouse of India’s Clean Energy Transformation, Says PM Modi – EQ
In Short : Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s accelerating clean energy transition, identifying the Saurashtra–Kutch region as a central driver of the nation’s green transformation. He emphasised large-scale renewable energy projects, green hydrogen development, and infrastructure growth in the region as critical pillars supporting India’s energy security, climate commitments, and long-term sustainable economic development.
in Detail : India’s clean energy journey is gaining remarkable momentum, with the country steadily positioning itself as a global leader in renewable power and low-carbon growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored this progress by pointing to the Saurashtra–Kutch region as a cornerstone of India’s green transition, reflecting how regional strengths are shaping national and global energy outcomes.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Saurashtra and Kutch possess exceptional natural advantages, including high solar irradiation, strong wind potential, and vast land availability, making the region ideal for large-scale renewable energy deployment. These inherent strengths have enabled the rapid development of solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects that are transforming the regional energy landscape.
He noted that the region is home to some of the most ambitious renewable energy initiatives in the world, including massive renewable energy parks that integrate solar and wind power. These projects are not only increasing India’s clean energy capacity but are also demonstrating the feasibility of utility-scale renewable solutions that can be replicated elsewhere.
Modi also emphasised the growing role of Saurashtra–Kutch in India’s green hydrogen ambitions. With access to abundant renewable power and strong port infrastructure, the region is emerging as a strategic hub for producing green hydrogen and green ammonia, which are expected to play a critical role in decarbonising industries and enabling clean exports.
The clean energy push, he explained, is closely linked with industrial growth and employment generation. Investments in renewable energy, energy storage, and green fuels are creating new economic opportunities, strengthening local supply chains, and positioning the region as a magnet for domestic and global investors focused on sustainability.
Infrastructure development was highlighted as another key enabler of the green transition. World-class ports, logistics networks, and industrial corridors in Saurashtra–Kutch are supporting the efficient movement of energy, equipment, and exports, thereby enhancing the region’s competitiveness and contribution to national growth.
The Prime Minister stressed that India’s clean energy momentum is not limited to power generation alone but extends to building a resilient, future-ready economy. By integrating clean energy with manufacturing, transportation, and digital infrastructure, regions like Saurashtra–Kutch are helping India move towards energy self-reliance and reduced carbon intensity.
He further noted that strong public-private collaboration has been central to this progress. Large-scale investments, policy stability, and ease of doing business have encouraged industry leaders to commit to long-term renewable and green technology projects, reinforcing confidence in India’s clean energy roadmap.
Concluding his remarks, Modi said that the rise of Saurashtra–Kutch as a clean energy hub reflects India’s broader vision of harmonising economic development with environmental responsibility. The region’s contribution, he asserted, will continue to play a decisive role in shaping India’s sustainable growth story and advancing its global climate leadership.
