Union Civil Aviation Ministry had decided to make Tirupati and Vijayawada Airports as Green Airports. On the lines of Cochin Airport which totally runs on Solar Power, these airports will also have Solar system installed to meet the energy needs. Very soon 1 MW Solar Plants will be installed at both the airports. The Civil Aviation Ministry had decided to generate 12.84 MW Power through Solar installed in 29 airports across the country. Officials of Gannavaram Airport have identified six acres of land for the installation of the solar power plant. Cochin is the world’s first fully solar-powered airport. The tens of thousands of panels generate on average slightly more than the roughly 48,000-50,000 kilowatts of power that the airport, the seventh busiest in India, uses per day.
