Vizianagaram: District collector of Vizianagaram Vivek Yadav observed that people of the district must participate in the initiative to cut down on electricity consumption. Flagging off a public rally at the Fort Area here on Wednesday, the collector urged the public to use energy in an economical manner. He pointed out that cutting down on unnecessary energy consumption would help save fossil fuel and energy sources.

Elaborating on the district administration’s plan to promote solar power and other alternative sources of power in various parts of the district, the collector said, ” Our main agenda is to ensure that the public utilise alternative sources of energy. We have solar, which can be extensively used in rural areas and especially in the Agency areas, where transmission of conventional sources of power cost more.”

The collector further added that some villages are being converted into solar hubs on a pilot project basis and said that the aim is to push for alternative sources of energy wherever possible. He assured that there would be a major shift towards usage of alternative sources of energy in the coming years as both the Union and state governments were keen on going green.

Speaking of the district administration’s commitment towards going green and eco-friendly in energy usage, the collector said that both the collectorate as well as the Vizianagaram municipal office are now powered by solar energy.
