In Short : The West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency has invited bids for 10 MW of rooftop solar installations across five regions, including Kolkata, central, southern, northern, and hilly areas. The tender covers design, supply, installation, net metering, and five years of operations and maintenance. Bids are due by August 14, 2025, with specified earnest money and performance guarantees.

In Detail : The West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) has issued a tender to develop 10 MW of rooftop solar projects across various parts of the state. The initiative is part of West Bengal’s broader push to expand clean energy access through distributed solar installations.

The tender is divided into five district-based packages. One package allocates 3 MW to Kolkata and nearby areas. Another 2 MW will be set up in the southern districts of the state, while 2.5 MW is earmarked for central West Bengal.

The northern districts are slated to receive 2 MW of rooftop capacity, and the remaining 0.5 MW is planned for the hilly regions. These allocations aim to ensure equitable solar penetration across diverse geographic zones of the state.

Developers participating in the tender must design, supply, install, and commission the rooftop solar systems. They are also required to facilitate net metering arrangements to allow energy export to the grid.

A critical part of the contract is the operation and maintenance of the systems for five years following installation. This ensures the long-term performance and reliability of the projects.

Interested bidders must submit their proposals by August 14, 2025. They are also required to provide an earnest money deposit and performance security as part of the bidding process.

The move is expected to encourage private sector participation in the state’s clean energy mission and reduce reliance on conventional power sources. It also supports national goals of expanding rooftop solar capacity across urban and semi-urban areas.

By targeting a mix of residential, institutional, and government rooftops, West Bengal aims to create a decentralized model of solar energy adoption, making clean power more accessible and affordable for its citizens.
