NEW DELHI: In a big push to the Centre’s ambitious plan to switch to electric vehicles by 2030, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has initiated a process to establish electric vehicle charging stations for the public.

The civic agency has already installed 25 charging stations at multiple locations across Lutyens’ Delhi, including CP, Gole Market, Jor Bagh, Sarojini Nagar Market and Yashwant Place. These will be open to the public by the first week of March. “This is the first time in the country that a civic agency has established e-vehicle charging stations for the public.

To implement the project, NDMC had signed an MoU with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) last year. EESL had later selected a company to establish the stations and install charging points as per the ministry of power guidelines,” said NDMC chairperson Naresh Kumar. These 25 stations will cater to the requirements of electric cars manufactured in India.
