ABB will be “very active” in the country’s renewable energy (RE) space, its executive said on Thursday.

“We are helping a lot of solar companies to basically inject their solar into the power grid, that’s one area where we’ll be very active… in general, renewables, hydro and geothermal,” said Olivier Coquerel, country managing director of ABB in the Philippines.

Seeing a “bright future” for renewables, Coquerel said “I think after Vietnam, probably it’s the place (the Philippines) where we have a lot of ongoing projects.”

“We will help all these companies to inject power into the grid,” he told reporters.

Coquerel also bared the company will have “a lot of collaboration” with companies such as the Aboitiz Group, the Ayala Group, and Solar Philippines.

“We’ll continue to work and provide solutions for them,” he added.

At present, Coquerel said ABB is executing 200 megawatts of battery projects for listed San Miguel Corp.

Last month, ABB announced SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. tapped them to install battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the country.

As part of a multi-million-dollar contract bagged in 2019, ABB will support two BESS sites with total capacity of 20 megawatts (MW) slated for installation this year, as well as another 40-MW BESS site in July.

The remaining sites will be completed in 2022.

Aside from that, ABB is closely working with Light Rail Manila Corp. on energy recuperation system.

ABB is seeking to increase its building automation footprint.

To date, ABB in the Philippines has three core businesses: electrification products; motion and industrial automation; and turbocharging.
