Germany’s AE Solar To Launch 1 GW Large Sized Solar Module Production Capacity In Turkey Under Joint Venture With US Based Energate Corp

In addition to 525 MW solar module production capacity in China and another 500 MW in Georgia, AE Solar is now building a 1 GW solar fab in Turkey

At the end of April 2021, German solar module producer AE Solar plans to bring online a new facility in Turkey whose capacity by the end of 2021 will exceed 1 GW. It is building this new facility in Kayseri region of Turkey under a joint venture with US based energy firm Energate Corp.

A report by Vietnamese newspaper Thanh Niên claimed the new fab by AE Solar will roll out high efficiency solar modules using 166mm, 182mm and 210mm sized solar cells. Highly automated equipment will produce 5 busbar (5BB) and 12BB solar panels here. The company is eyeing the US and Turkey as the target markets for these modules and later may expand their reach to other regions as well.

According to the news report, this Turkish facility will be the company’s largest solar module factory outside of China and act as a ‘springboard’ for the manufacturer’s expansion to Turkey, the US along with in Europe, South America, Middle East and North Africa.

This capacity addition will add to the company’s current annual production capacity of 525 MW in China and 500 MW in Georgia. During official commissioning of the Georgian facility in May 2019, AE Solar had said it may expand its capacity to 1.2 GW in the future (see AE Solar’s Georgia Fab Commissioned).

In August 2020, Kalyon Holding brought online what it termed as the ‘first’ vertically integrated solar panel factory in Turkey, Europe and Middle East with 500 MW annual wafer, cell and module capacity (see 500 MW Wafer-To-Panel Fab Opens In Turkey).
