Africa Energy Access Flagship Report Off-Grid Solar
The assignment forms part of the Africa Energy Access Flagship which will present a strategic investment roadmap to support SubSaharan African (SSA) countries in the path to achieve universal energy access by 2030. This assignment will focus on the off-grid solar standalone sector. Building on existing literature, especially the Global Off Grid Solar Market Trends Report, and acknowledging the vast differences among energy poor countries, the objectives are to (i) assess the current potential of off-grid sector as the driving force in closing the electricity access gap; (ii) critically review current market-based approaches and possible alternatives or variations; (iii) identify opportunities that the off-grid sector could leverage (technologies, financing options, policy trends etc.) and (iv) develop a clear path ahead, including measures the WB, development partners, and Governments should pursue to increase the pace and inclusivity of off-grid electrification.
