DIGBOI: In a significant value-added development to the refinery and other vital installations of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Assam Oil Division(AOD) here at the Oil industrial town of Digboi, the IOCL AOD Digboi Refinery successfully commissioned another 1000 KW Peak Solar PV System.

Executive Director, Assam Oil Division DR Sandeep S John inaugurated the Solar power project recently in presence of other top brass of the corporation including Chief General Manager (Technical) Sunil Kanti, General Manager I/C (TS&HSE) N K Baruah, G K Goyari GM (Pn), GM (HR) H Bhattacharyya, GM(F) Ajay Lal, GM(M & C) Biswajit Hazarika, GM (P&U & Isnt.) K K Sarma, GM(ES & Insp) S D Chaklader, GM(Maint) J K Shersia and other representatives of the collectives and employees of IOCL AOD Digboi Refinery were present.

The project is an effort of the Power & Utilities Department of Digboi Refinery to achieve sustainability through alternate energy in line with the vision and directives of Government of India towards sustainability. There are eight inverters to convert DC power from solar PV panels to 415 V AC power and finally stepped up to 11 KV. The Solar power generation system has been connected to Digboi Refinery power system grid. According to formal sources, with the commissioning of this unit, the total solar power generation capacity at Digboi Refinery stands at 1150 KWp and the industry would be easily fed with adequate power to overcome the unwarranted power deadlock to ensure stability in the functioning of the industry.

Earlier, in 2016, the first 50 KWp PV plant was commissioned near the AOD hospital to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the smooth functioning of the hospital while another similar project was accomplished and commissioned in 2017 by the then ED AOD Mritunjoy Pramanik. The 100 KWp grids-interactive solar photovoltaic plants (PV) comprised of 318 numbers of 315 W Micro crystalline modules connected to 2X50 KVA string inverters. ‘All the projects are fully functional and with technological advances we are able to preserve the renewable sources of energy dwelling on the inexhaustible resources at the optimum level to feed the industry and other needy sectors’, said one of the administrators of the AOD management.
