Ausgrid, an electric utility based in Sydney, Australia, has released a prototype electric vehicle fast charging station as part of its plan to transform street-side power kiosks into a network of partly free to use EV chargers, according to a report in thedriven.

Ausgrid revealed in October that it would team with Jolt to tap existing electricity infrastructure to boost to Australia’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Ausgrid CEO Richard Gross and Jolt CEO Doug McNamee introduced the EV kiosk prototype in Hornsby.

Gross said 60 or 70 kiosk conversions will be completed this year.

EV drivers will sign up to an app to activate on the curb-side charger and receive 15 minutes, or 45 kilometers, free of charge. Those seeking more more than 7kWh will opt to pay for more energy.
