The Bayani or Heroes Association of Saipan has installed five solar street lights at the Badjao tribe resettlement area in Bugo, Cagayan de Oro, in the southern Philippines. The project is aimed at providing safety and lights to a remote area inaccessible to the power supply by the Cagayan de Oro Power Light Company.

The Bayani volunteers presented the solar street lamps to the tribal families. During the presentation, four families also received solar lights for household use, mosquito nets, and a sleeping mat. Another three families received care packages, including 10 kilos or 22 pounds of rice, soy sauce, cooking oil, canned goods, noodles, laundry and bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste, one pack of sugar, and coffee.

Bayani volunteers likewise completed the repair of the restroom at the resettlement area. Recently, the group provided the tribal families with care packages, including kitchen equipment and roofing materials.

“We are thankful to the Bayani Association for providing us street lights,” the Badjao tribe leader said. “It’s a dream come true — our kids can now go out and play outside, and it is now safe to walk at night.”

Bayani Association president Annamae Adaza said, “We are so grateful to the generosity of our friends who donated financial assistance in making our project into a reality, namely RMR, AJ Camacho, Johney Yamson, and Napoleon Balingit.”
