BENGALURU: The government has earmarked Rs 2 crore out of revenue generated from ‘green tax’ collection for establishing a charging station for BMTC electric buses.

This sum is part of the Rs 15 crore it plans to spend on activities ranging from creating awareness about directives issued by green tribunals to providing subsidies for converting two-stroke autorickshaws into electric ones.

In an order dated May 23, the government listed four major expenditure heads and earmarked money to be spent this fiscal. The highest amount – Rs 6 crore – has been set aside for the implementation of green tribunal directives and guidelines on prevention of air pollution. Here, the government intends to also create awareness at movie theatres while using other mediums of advertising.

Another Rs 5 crore will go towards subsidies provided on the purchase of electric auto (Rs 60,000 each) by those using old, two-stroke autos. A total of Rs 2 crore will be spent on providing subsidies for scrapping vehicles older than 15 years.
