In Short : Bondada Engineering has secured a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Tamil Nadu as part of TN Green Energy Corporation’s 1,000 MWh tender. The system will store renewable energy for grid stability and peak demand use. Scheduled for commissioning in 18 months under a BOO model, the project is supported by viability gap funding from the government.

In Detail : Bondada Engineering has been awarded a significant contract to develop a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Tamil Nadu. The project is part of a larger 1,000 MWh energy storage tender issued by the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGEC), aiming to strengthen the state’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The BESS will play a crucial role in stabilizing the state’s power grid. By storing excess energy generated from solar and wind sources, the system will ensure reliable power supply during periods of peak demand or low renewable generation.

This project will be executed under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with Bondada Engineering responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the system. The model is designed to encourage private sector participation while ensuring long-term operational efficiency.

The project comes with viability gap funding support, which helps make capital-intensive energy storage systems commercially viable. This funding reflects the government’s commitment to accelerating energy transition and integrating advanced storage technologies into the grid.

The installation is expected to be completed within 18 months, making it one of the fastest-deployed large-scale BESS projects in the region. Upon commissioning, it will significantly improve Tamil Nadu’s ability to manage intermittent renewable energy sources.

As India pushes toward ambitious renewable energy targets, large-scale battery storage projects like this one are essential. Bondada Engineering’s involvement in this initiative highlights its growing presence in the clean energy sector and underlines the strategic importance of storage in India’s energy future.
