Canadian energy producer Boralex Inc (TSE:BLX) on Wednesday said it has been successful with two energy storage projects totalling 380 MW in a tender in Ontario, with its projects accounting for almost half of the 780 MW of storage capacity awarded.

Boralex’ 300-MW Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park and its 80-MW Tilbury Battery Storage Project were selected as part of the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) Expedited Long-Term Request for Proposals. Both are four-hour duration battery storage projects and are expected to be online at the end of 2025. They are located respectively near the town of Hagersville in Haldimand County and close to existing Hydro One infrastructure in the Municipality of Lakeshore. Boralex has partnered with the Six Nations of the Grand River to develop the Hagersville project and with the Walpole Island First Nation to develop the Tilbury scheme.

“These projects will help the province of Ontario meet its own energy capacity targets while enabling greater renewable energy development and providing stability to the province’s power system,” remarked Boralex’s president and chief executive Patrick Decostre.

The company said it is currently finalising the terms of the contracts with the IESO.

A total of seven storage projects were selected. Among them is Capital Power’s York Battery Energy Storage System project of 114 MW contracted capacity. The list also includes one more large facility, of 265 MW nameplate capacity, proposed by Portlands Energy Centre LP (Atura Power).
