In Short : Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has awarded a contract to Volks Energie to develop a solar power and lithium-ion battery energy storage system for the Integrated Development of Petroleum Logistics (IDPL) project. This marks India’s first pipeline-integrated solar plus LFP battery system, aiming to enhance energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and support BPCL’s broader sustainability and decarbonization goals.

In Detail : Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has awarded a significant contract to Volks Energie for the development of a solar power generation system integrated with a lithium-ion battery energy storage solution. This system will be deployed as part of the Integrated Development of Petroleum Logistics (IDPL) project, a strategic initiative by BPCL aimed at modernizing its pipeline infrastructure.

The project marks a major milestone as it is India’s first pipeline-integrated solar plus lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) battery energy storage system. The integration of renewable energy with advanced battery storage will help reduce dependency on conventional energy sources and enhance the overall energy efficiency of BPCL’s logistics operations.

Volks Energie will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the system, including the commissioning and long-term operation and maintenance. The company is expected to leverage its expertise in distributed solar and battery solutions to deliver a technically sound and sustainable energy system.

The solar and storage solution will be used to power critical infrastructure and automation systems along the petroleum pipeline, reducing operational carbon emissions and ensuring uninterrupted energy supply during grid outages. The battery system will also help in managing energy loads more efficiently.

BPCL has been taking significant steps toward decarbonization and enhancing the sustainability of its operations. This project is aligned with its broader strategy of incorporating clean energy technologies into its core infrastructure and reducing its environmental footprint.

With this initiative, BPCL reinforces its commitment to innovation in energy and its transition towards greener alternatives. The successful implementation of this system could pave the way for similar clean energy integrations across India’s petroleum logistics network.
