New Delhi, India : Boosting Government of India’s ambitious goals to reduce carbon emission in all major cities by 2030 and furthering the plans for rolling out E-Mobility, Charge Point Operators of India (CPOS) has approved Joulepoints’ proposal for setting up 5000 EV chargers in Central Delhi.

The pilot project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Joulepoint will be working with Alektrify to install these charging points at 2000 allotted locations for piloting under Ease of Doing Business (EoDB). The locations will include popular tourist destinations like Qutub Minar and Akshardham, shopping malls around the city like Select City Walk, Hotels like ITC Maratha, Taj Palace, Embassies in the city, IT Parks, Government offices, Apartments, Corporate Offices, Railway Stations and University Campuses and any other frequently visited areas.

Building EV charging infra faces fourfold challenges like Land Lease or Space Allocation, clarity with discoms, access to finance and collateral security. Committed to supporting the smart charging hardware all around the country, Joulepoint provides the operating system for EV chargers and manages the infrastructure. Ranjan Kumar Dodda, Chief Marketing Officer, Joulepoint said, “We are privileged to be executing this project in association with CPOS in realising India’s dream towards reducing carbon emission and strengthen E-Mobility. We are a one-stop solution for everything that is required to smoothly operate EV charging stations and enhance the convenience of the commuters. We are geared up to deliver a state-of-art experience to the commuter and travelers who have committed themselves to the cause of environment by choosing to drive e-vehicles.”

Alektrify, a member of Charge Point Operators of India (CPOS) already owns two of India’s largest NHEV prototype charging stations in Gurugram. These EV charging stations with 100 and 121 chargers respectively will have a capacity to charge 1500 cars in 24 hours and have a maximum utilization of 72 percent with a minimal breakeven tenure of only 36 months. JoulePoint and Alektrify will work together to maximize the benefits and benefitting mutual interests in translating areas of existing ease of doing business practices in E-Mobility, as well as identifying strategic partnership and collaboration.

Abhijeet Sinha, National Director, Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) said, “One district with dense population and network needs to be piloted for understanding business operability and technical and financial viability. This modular district will help set up reference sample for the entire nation to aspire for infrastructure upgradation to accommodate EV at minimum time loss. Ease of Doing Business is committed to wrinkle out the bottlenecks and obstacles through partners like CPOS.”

The EV charging stations will be a great enabler for faster adoption of EV in the National Capital. The new infrastructure will encourage more people to opt for e-vehicles thereby contributing towards the larger goal of reducing carbon emission and of course a Greener Delhi. This will also become a benchmark for other cities to accelerate EV adoption and contribute to building up a resilient E-Mobility framework.”

NHEV is going to flag off TECH TRIAL II, the second trial run for making National Highways EV friendly in September, for Delhi – Jaipur Expressway. Earlier, in December 2020, the first phase of trials was completed at Delhi- Agra Yamuna Expressway.
