LEONARDTOWN, Md : Commissioner President Randy Guy signed a Right of Way Agreement Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, granting SMECO access to the Leonardtown Library and Garvey Senior Activity Center property for the construction of an Electric Vehicle Charging Station.

Library Director Michael Blackwell said, “We are excited to partner with SMECO to offer an electric vehicle charging station. Libraries are all about sustainability through sharing. Thanks to the St. Mary’s County Government, our Wi-Fi extends out to the station, so electric car owners can charge their vehicles while in the library or even stay in them if the weather is nice. The station will be close to a horse hitching post, offering fun views of St. Mary’s past, present and future in one place.”

This project is the first of 20 proposed Electric Vehicle Charging sites planned for St. Mary’s County. The charging stations will be constructed and maintained by SMECO and, when complete, will be available for 24-hour access.
