The revised tariff is applicable for all EV charging stations in Mumbai, including battery swapping stations.

Mumbai : The cost for charging your electric vehicles has gone up in Mumbai soon as the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved the tariff hike.

The regulatory authority given its nod to increase the tariff for charging at EV stations across the city by 14-18 percent.

While he EV stations by Adani Electricity will be increasing the tariff by 14 per cent, BEST will implement a 16 per cent hike. Vehicles using Tata Power will have to pay 18 per cent more for charging.

According to officials, the revised tariff for all power companies for electric vehicle charging in Mumbai has now been rationalized at 7.25/unit.

A concession of Rs 1.50/unit will be provided to power utilities for charging during 10 pm to 6 am.

The MERC has issued a notification in this regard which stated that the revised tariff is applicable for all EV charging stations, including battery swapping stations.

Charging stations at other locations like restaurants and convenience stores shall charge the customers at a tariff applicable to commercial category, the authority added. Individual users can also take separate connections under this category for charging EVs.

The registration of EVs in Maharashtra has registered a significant jump in the last financial year. As many as 1,00,750 battery electric vehicle (EV) were registered in 2022-23, marking a 130 per cent increase from the year before. In 2021-22, 43,722 new EVs were registered in the state, and in 2020-21, 7,544 new EVs were registered.

Meanwhile, the power tariff for Mumbai residents have also gone up pay 5 to 10 per cent as the MERC agreed to the distribution companies’ proposal of a price hike.
