DOE endorses 16 major power projects to NGCP

The Department of Energy endorsed 16 new power projects in the first quarter for system impact studies by National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

It said the projects included two natural gas projects in Bataan, including the planned 875-megawatt combined cycle power plant of Excellent Energy Resources inc. in Barangay Alangan, Limay, and the 1,200-MW natural gas project of Mariveles Power Inc. in Mariveles, Bataan.

Also approved were the 600-MW Guimaras Straight wind power project of Jet Stream Windkraft Corp. in offshore Negros Occidental and Iloilo, the 600-MW San Miguel Bay offshore wind power of Sitex Windkraft Corp. in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, the 450-MW Frontera Bay Offshore wind power of Ivisan Windkraft Corp. in Cavite and the 600-MW Aparri Bay offshore wind of Triconti Southwind Corp. in Aparri, Cagayan.

The department also endorsed Cleantech Global Renewables Inc.’s 100-MW Kalayaan 2 wind project in Paete, Laguna and Mauban, Quezon, and Gigawind1 Inc.‘s 200-MW Zambales South wind power in Zambales for grid impact studies.

Other approved projects were GM Energy Construction Philippines Inc.’s 110.7-MW Lal-lo solar power project in Cagayan province, PV Sinag Power Inc.’s 98.14-MW Laoag solar power in Pangasinan, Raslag Corp.’s 18-MW Raslag III solar in Pampanga, and Jobin SQM Inc.’s 100-MW Subic power in Bataan.

The department allowed two floating solar projects to conduct grid impact study, including Nortesol Inc.’s 250-MW San Pedro solar project in Laguna and Nortesol IV Inc.’s 250-MW Taguig solar in Laguna de Bay and Taguig City.

Two battery energy projects were given the go-signal for the grid impact study, including the 20-MW battery storage system of King Energy Generation Inc. in Bukidnon and the 20-MW Ambuklao energy storage of SN Aboitiz Power Benguet Snap Inc. in Benguet.
