Solar, Wind, Grid Power Generation Projects Development State Minister Duminda Dissanayake said that there will be a well-designed farsighted plan for utilising renewable energy resources to achieve President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s target of using 80 percent of renewable energy in the national grid within the next 10 years.

Dissanayake was speaking when he inspected the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) and Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board recenty.

The State Minister held discussions with the Chairman of the SLSEA L.H. Ranjith and the Board of Directors with regard to the ongoing power generation projects and the future plans to develop the sustainable energy sources.

The State Minister said that the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and the C.E.B. will work in close collaboration and with mutual understanding in fulfilling the country’s total energy requirement. He requested the officials to look into the possibility of commencing solar energy generation projects by using the roofing of the country’s school buildings.

“There are a large number of mushroom solar power production companies and most of such companies showcase their out-of- date technologies to update and thus, the sector is losing credibility among customers.

This situation shall be remedied to attract the public to confidently depend on sustainable energy sources, especially solar power. I am prepared to make necessary changes in the provisions of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Act No. 35 of 2007 to overcome the challenges and to encourage new entrepreneurs,” Dissanayake said.
