Bidders from France, Spain, Ecuador and Mexico will be awarded concessions in Ecuador’s tender for the construction and operation of 500 MW of renewable energy.

The Ecuadorean ministry of energy and mining said on Friday that the following companies had been selected for the awards: France’s Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN) and Total Eren SA, Spain’s Dominion Energy, Consorcio Santa Rosa Energy and Consorcio El Rosado Energy, Ecuador’s Consorcio San Jacinto and Mexico’s Consorcio Esco AS.

The projects are currently in the award stage, according to the announcement. The energy ministry expects them to bring USD 689 million (EUR 632m) in private investments to the country and create around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction.

As part of the tender, locally known as Bloque de ERNC 500 MW, the ministry invited domestic and international companies to compete for the construction of 150 MW of small hydroelectric stations, 200 MW of wind farms, 120 MW of solar PV plants and 30 MW of biomass and biogas power plants. The winning bidders would operate the power plants under multi-year concession agreements.

Earlier this year, the ministry released the list of bidders that submitted economic offers in one of the final stages of the competition. All of the offers were below the ceiling price that the ministry set for each technology: USD 52.44/MWh for hydro power, USD 61.12/MWh for wind, USD 67.79/MWh for solar and USD 45.59/MWh for biomass. The list showed no bids placed for biomass/biogas sub-block.
