Electric vehicle charging points are now available in a further five Powys County Council carparks.

The addition of these five further locations increases the council’s electric vehicle charging network to 13 sites, helping both residents and visitors in the transition to using electric vehicles.

The new charging points were installed using a grant from the Welsh Government ultra-low emissions transformation fund and are located in:

  • Beaufort St. Car Park, Crickhowell
  • Oxford Road Car Park, Hay-on-Wye
  • Bowling Green Lane Car Park, Knighton
  • Dark Lane Car Park, Rhayader
  • Heol Eglwys Car Park, Ystradgynlais

The ‘fast’ charge points installed in all 13 locations are capable of fully charging an electric vehicle in three to four hours, dependent on the type and number of vehicles plugged in at the time.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys says: “We are lucky enough to have had electric charging points in a number of our council car parks for a while now and are grateful to the previous administration for their work to ensure that the funding for this project was secured.

“The charging facilities are proving to be a great asset to have in our rural, widespread county. With the addition of five more locations in the next exciting phase in our planned Powys-wide network of electric charging points there will be a boost to our tourism economy as well.

“This project is also an important step for helping both the people of Powys and our visitors make more sustainable lifestyle choices and help us achieve our ambition to reduce the council’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030.”

The charging points in the council carparks are part of the Dragon Charging network which can be used via the Dragon Charging app or their RFID cards. Guest pay-as-you go accounts are also available.
