With targets for net-zero emissions by 2070 and positioning India as a global energy hub, the government aims for a sustainable energy future.

In Detail : Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar said on Tuesday that ensuring power security in India is key to address the country’s 2047 net zero targets.

While addressing the Outlook Sustainable Power Conclave, the Union Minister said that to improve India’s economic status, industry is the tool and for the industry to improve, power is the tool. “If power is secured, there’s no reason for the country to not reach its goals by 2047”, he said.

Further talking about power security, Khattar stressed on paying attention to certain aspects. He said, “In Secure, S stands for sustainable power, E stands for economically viable power, C for cleaner power, U for uninterrupted power, R for reliable power and E stands for energy for all.”

While talking at the event, the Minister assured that the industry will receive all sorts of support from the government to achieve renewable energy goals by 2047.

Additionally he stated, “There are certain challenges which must be met. The generation of power started long back. With the increasing demand for power, we started using coal and other sources.”

He further said that with the increase in pollution we realised that clean energy is needed. Carbon emission reduction targets are set for all countries under the Paris Agreement. “I am happy that we are completing all its steps at our own pace. Whatever we had prepared, we are moving ahead from that,” he added.
