FIRST LARGE SOLAR FOR VICTORIA

The northern corner of Victoria is blessed with long days of sunshine and large areas of open agricultural land. This combination has led the Mildura and Swan Hill areas to lead Australia in grape, fruit and nut production.

OVERLAND Sun Farming Company has been working with the area to lead the way again, this time with large scale solar PV energy.

OVERLAND joined forces with UK-based solar energy group Island Green Power, to develop three large solar projects in the region that will have a capacity of over 320 MegaWatts of clean solar energy generation and provide enough energy to power over 600,000 homes.

The projects, located at Wemen, Yatpool and Iraak, have completed all planning studies and have been granted development approval by Council. In addition, Powercor Australia has signed agreements with OVERLAND to connect each of the projects to the state electrical grid system and orders have been placed for the large electrical equipment that is needed to connect the solar farm to the nearby electricity grid.

Construction works for the projects will start during 2017 and clean, solar energy will be flowing into the state’s power system within about 12 months.
