Kumaraswamy inaugurated India’s first commercial electric truck battery swapping and charging station on October 8, 2025, in Panchi Gujran village, Sonipat, Haryana. Developed by Energy in Motion at the Delhi International Cargo Terminal, the facility marks a significant milestone in India’s transition to sustainable transportation. It demonstrates the country’s commitment to clean logistics solutions.
The new technology allows electric truck batteries to be swapped in approximately seven minutes, a major improvement over the conventional two-hour charging process. This rapid turnaround is expected to enhance logistics efficiency, reduce operational costs, and lower emissions, contributing to cleaner, faster, and more reliable freight operations across India.
Minister Gadkari emphasized that alternative energy adoption could help reduce India’s annual fuel import bill of nearly ₹25 lakh crore. He noted that the savings could be reinvested into national development projects, accelerating progress toward making India a developed nation while supporting economic growth and sustainability simultaneously.
Minister Kumaraswamy described the launch as a key milestone in India’s clean mobility journey. He highlighted the importance of transitioning heavy vehicles to bio-fuel and electric power to reduce logistics costs and environmental impact. The initiative reflects India’s growing leadership in sustainable transport technology and renewable energy adoption.
The project supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070. By promoting energy-efficient solutions in logistics, the facility contributes to reducing India’s carbon footprint and fosters a cleaner environment for citizens while aligning with global climate commitments.
The establishment of the battery swapping station is part of a broader government initiative to lower logistics costs below 9% by December 2026.
