Germany’s Federal Network Agency has selected 79 projects totalling 193 MW in this year’s second round of the rooftop solar tender which was significantly oversubscribed, indicating a rising interest.

The round with a deadline of June 1 was planned to allocate 191 MW and attracted a total of 155 bids with a combined capacity of 342 MW, the regulator said on Tuesday. The two previous bidding rounds failed to reach the targeted capacity due to insufficient interest.

The volume-weighted average price in the round came in at EUR 0.1018 (USD 0.111) per kWh and bids ranged from EUR 0.088 to EUR 0.108 per kWh which is below the maximum value of EUR 0.1125.

“The development of tenders for rooftop solar installations is encouraging, particularly the regional distribution: bids were submitted for projects in every federal state – awards could be granted to projects in 15 federal states,” said the Federal Network Agency’s president Klaus Mueller.

Most awards went to North Rhine-Westphalia where 19 projects for a combined 48 MW will receive subsidies under the EEG scheme. Second ranked Lower Saxony with 11 awards for 20 MW, followed by the southern states of Baden-Wuerttemberg with seven awards for 27 MW and Bavaria with seven awards for 22 MW. Saarland was the only federal state without a winning project in the competition.

Seven bids were excluded from the procedure due to formal errors.

The deadline for the next round in this category is October 1.
