Greece’s delayed maiden tender for standalone battery energy storage capacity will offer 400 MW and will commence by June 15, Energypress reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

The competition will allocate some EUR 200 million (USD 215m) in funding from Greece’s Recovery and Resilience Facility. With bids planned to be accepted by early July, the names of shortlisted bidders will be announced at the start of August, the insiders have said.

The successful projects will receive investment and operational support based on the annual allowance amounts claimed. The tender, previously expected to be launched by March, is being prepared by Greece’s Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAAEY).

Greece received the European Commission’s (EC) nod to spend EUR 341 million on the construction and operation of up to 900 MW of grid-connected energy storage systems. It was then announced that developers would be awarded contracts by the end of 2023 and would be required to bring the proposed facilities online by end-2025.
