Architects too want people buying independent houses to plan installing points

Different people have different priorities and preferences while buying their dream home… For some, it’s Vaastu and for others it’s car parking, adequate lighting, good roads and so on. However, the latest trend in the city is to ensure that the dream homes should come with EV charging infrastructure as well. “Apartment residents are now facing the challenge of EVs over charging stations.

Even if a couple of EV charging ports are being installed, there is no clarity as to who will pay the bill. The apartment representatives want residents to pool in money, but others who don’t own an EV ask why they should share the bill for someone else. As of now, the technology is not upgraded where an instant bill can be generated for EV charging. In this scenario, there is no such problem for people buying EVs with independent homes,” said Jagadish, an architect.

Another architect said, “We are advising people to provide sufficient space for EV charging. If this infrastructural facility can be done at the construction of a new home, then EV charging will be easier. Today, not many may be buying EVs but tomorrow it may become a trend. For example, there are thousands of people who had constructed houses earlier without leaving a place for car parking. Their argument was that a car was termed a luxury and they may not afford it.”

When cars became essential, many house compounds had to be demolished to build parking spaces. This damaged the beauty of the houses.

However, he says: “When cars became essential, the house compounds had to be demolished to make way for cars. This was not only wastage of money but also damaging the beauty of the house. Similarly, many were not willing to go for AC ports at home saying that Bengaluru didn’t need AC.

But, the changing weather forced many homes to adopt AC and then again electricians had to be roped in to fix AC ports. These are a few examples to say that EV charging ports may not be essential for people now but this will soon become a trend in days to come.

Hence, architects are urging people that all those planning to go for independent houses should go for EV charging port. Many architects say that now when they are drawing the building plans, EV charging ports are also becoming an integral part of the building plan.
