In Detail : The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has established two new Centres of Excellence focused on advancing green hydrogen and electric vehicle (EV) technologies. These centres are powered entirely by onsite renewable energy, combining solar and wind systems with battery storage to ensure a steady and sustainable power supply.
The Centre for Green Hydrogen features an integrated microgrid that includes solar panels and wind turbines. This setup provides direct power to electrolyzers, enabling the on-site production of hydrogen. The facility showcases a scalable model for zero-emissions hydrogen generation, positioning it as a key driver of future clean fuel solutions.
The EV-focused centre supports research and development in battery manufacturing and smart charging technologies. It includes infrastructure for testing electric vehicles under various conditions, including integration with microgrids and renewable power systems. This helps in advancing the performance and efficiency of all-terrain electric vehicles.
Both centres use hybrid energy systems that incorporate solar PV, wind power, and battery energy storage to maintain reliable and uninterrupted operations. These systems provide resilience during power fluctuations and grid outages, ensuring continuity in research and development activities.
