IHS Markit ranks 2017 world top 10 PV inverter suppliers: Huawei leads three years in a row, string inverters overtake central inverters for first time
Following GTM Research, the global authoritative research institute IHS Markit released the 2017 PV inverter rankings.

Consistent with the GTM ranking, the world top 3 PV inverter suppliers retained their positions in 2016–2017. Huawei, in particular, has led the rankings 3 years in a row and continuously expanded the market share thanks to the new shipment record it has renewed in China. It has also extended volume growth rapidly in India, Japan, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
The rankings verified another major change in the PV inverter market in 2017 – technology iteration. Three-phase string inverters have surpassed central inverters by 47.6 GW in shipment. The 10 GW market share of single-phase inverters included, the market share of string inverters has risen up to 54.9%, resulting in profound alternation of the top 5–10 rankings of the world PV inverter suppliers in 2017.
According to IHS Markit, Huawei maintained its absolute leading position in the PV string inverter market mainly because of its popularity among large-scale ground PV plants. High energy yield, high reliability, and low maintenance cost have made string inverters the mainstream for ground PV plants. At the same time, PV string inverter suppliers have also continuously benefited from the rapid development of China’s distributed PV plants, PV poverty alleviation, and residential inverter market.
