IMPLEMENTING ECBC IN CONSTRUCTION OF NEW BUILDINGS CAN SAVE UP TO 40% ELECTRICITY: PEDA
Punjab Energy Development Agency’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa on Tuesday called upon to adopt clean and green energy and at the same time, energy saving through energy efficient materials or appliances.
Randhawa categorised that 30 to 40 per cent energy saving can be achieved by implementing Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) in new buildings, while 10 to 15 percent energy can be saved by implementing energy conservation measures in the existing buildings.
“By using renewable energy systems along with energy efficiency, considerable power can be saved which will offset the new capacity addition thereby decreasing GHG (green house gas) emission resulting in saving the environment,” said Randhawa after inaugurating a workshop-cum-exhibition, organized in PEDA Solar Passive Complex, on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’ to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency.
In the exhibition, energy efficient building materials like insulation, AAC (Autoclaved aerated concrete) blocks, Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), glass, lighting, Solar PV and hot water, electrical systems and automation were displayed by various manufacturers or vendors.
More than 50 vendors participated from all over India and displayed their energy efficient building materials.
Punjab’s Chief Architect Sapna also emphasized upon the benefits of Punjab ECBC which has been notified and made mandatory for buildings having connected load of 100 kW and above for construction of new buildings.
She asked all the stakeholder departments, architects, engineers and builders to use energy efficient building materials and design ECBC complaint buildings in future.
PEDA Executive Director Balour Singh said that PEDA is facilitating all stakeholders through organizing capacity building programs and interactive sessions through ECBC Cell created in PEDA office for implementation of Punjab ECBC.
More than 1,200 private or government architects, engineers and builders have been sensitized about the energy efficient materials and its use for construction of Punjab ECBC complaint buildings, he said.
He said that the exhibition on different construction materials or appliances has been organized during the workshop and more than 150 architects, design professionals, engineers and builders participated in the workshop and shown interest in exhibited energy efficient building materials.
