Tokyo-based manufacturer of building materials and housing equipment Lixil Corp (TYO:5938), announced last week it will install a 5-MW solar plant on the roof of an aluminium factory in Thailand.

The photovoltaic (PV) power facility is expected to come into operation in October of this year.

The solar array will be deployed on top of the Tostem production base for Lixil Housing Technology (LHT), which manufactures about 30% of the group’s aluminium building materials.

Following the installation, Tostem’s renewable energy consumption ratio will amount to 8.5% and it will achieve a reduction of its annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of some 4,000 tonnes, Lixil estimates.

The Japanese group aims to become carbon neutral by 2050, it noted.
