KUALA LUMPUR: The commercial and industrial sectors are set towards sustainable green energy for power consumption due to greater awareness of the incentives offered for embracing green energy such as solar, recording growth in uptake by over 100 per cent since 2018.

Plus Solar Systems Sdn Bhd co-founder and chief executive officer Ko Chuan Zhen said customers from the commercial and industrial sectors were eagerly looking into renewable energy as the cost of electricity generation using solar photovoltaic (PV) was almost on par with the cost of electricity generated by coal-fired power plants.

“Many are taking advantage of the government’s push towards renewable energy with the extension of the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA), which has since been extended to 2023.

“This allows companies to offset up to 70 per cent of their statutory income in the year of assessment, and unutilised allowances can be carried forward until they are fully absorbed,” he said in a statement today.

One of the recent commercial projects that Plus Solar has completed is outfitting close to 1,370 PV panels on the rooftop of Johor’s latest shopping mall, Toppen Shopping Centre, which is part of the Ikano Group of companies.

With a system capacity of 506.9KWp (kilowatt ‘peak’), the customised solar PV system supplies enough electricity to power 126 residential homes in Johor.

Prior to Toppen Mall and IKEA Tebrau, Plus Solar has also installed solar PV systems for IKEA Cheras and IKEA Batu Kawan, for a total of four malls under the IKANO brand which has embraced solar solutions for renewable energy.
