Luxembourg will disburse EUR 16.1 million (USD 17.2m) in funding to 46.3 MWp of projects selected in its first tender for self-consumption solar capacity in the commercial sector.

The awarded projects represent a combined investment of EUR 44.4 million, with their developers having an 18-month deadline to power up the capacity. According to data released by the Ministry of Economy last week, 106 applications were submitted and 85 of them were successful.

The winning schemes were filed by 75 companies. They were awarded in three main categories – installations ranging from 30 kW to 200 kW, systems of between 200 kW and 500 kW, and plants of 500 kW-5 MW. The respective subsidy ceiling for each category was EUR 810 per kW, EUR 610/kW, and EUR 530/kW.

The largest portion of the awarded capacity, 32.7 MWp, was secured by projects in the 500 kW-5 MW category and will share a EUR-9.8-million funding bag.

Due to the success of the inaugural call, Luxembourg will hold a second tender round next month and will accept proposals until October. The government statistics show that 793 of the 1,053 new installations switched on in the country last year were for self-consumption purposes.
