MLAS CONCERNED OVER FREQUENT POWER CUTS

Members belonging to the Opposition Congress and BJP and the ruling BJD on Fridayexpressed grave concerns over frequent power cuts occurring across the State.

Energy Minister Prafulla Mallick admitted the allegation saying that maintenance works and shortage of coal have resulted in the power cuts.  However, he assured that the issue would be resolved very soon.

The Minister was replying to a question of Congress MLA Ashwini Kumar Patra, when Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati wanted to know why unreported power cuts happening frequently. Many other members too raised the issue.

The Minister informed that the State is availing an average of 2,950 MW of power comprising 645 MW from State hydropower, 870 MW from State thermal power, 70 MW from new and renewable source, 265 MW from own power centres and 1,100 from Central share,  every day.

Similarly, the highest of 3,900 MW is availed on a given day which includes 1,450 from State hydropower, 1,020 MW from State thermal power, 50 MW from new and renewable source, 265 MW from own power centres and 1,150 from Central share…..
