In Detail : Mobis India has inaugurated its new electric vehicle battery system assembly plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The facility is located adjacent to Hyundai Motor India’s existing operations, reinforcing the synergy between the two companies and supporting the broader EV ecosystem in the region.
Spread across 8.15 acres, the state-of-the-art plant has an initial production capacity of 36,000 battery systems per year. This capacity is expected to increase to 75,000 units annually as demand for electric vehicles continues to rise across the country.
The plant currently assembles battery packs using Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistry. Plans are underway to begin assembling Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery packs as well, allowing Mobis India to cater to a wider range of electric vehicle models and performance needs.
This strategic investment is part of Hyundai Mobis’s commitment to strengthening its local manufacturing capabilities in India. The facility will play a key role in supplying high-quality EV battery systems for Hyundai and other OEM partners in the region.
In addition to boosting domestic production, the new facility is also expected to generate significant employment. Around 255 new jobs will be created, contributing to the local economy and building a skilled workforce for India’s clean mobility future.
With the opening of this plant, Mobis India is aligning itself with the Indian government’s push for electric mobility and localization. The project marks a major milestone in developing a self-reliant and robust EV supply chain within the country.
