Morocco has given developers more time to take part in a tender for 400 MWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity within the Noor PV II complex, extending the bidding deadline by almost two weeks.

Interested parties will be now able to make submissions by February 11, 2021, a notice on the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy’s (MASEN’s) website shows. The agency launched the call for projects at the start of January and then set an initial deadline for participation by January 31, 2021.

The tender is tied to the construction of the first phase of the Noor PV II complex. The project involves six locations — Sidi Bennour (48 MW), Kelaa sraghna (48 MW), Taroudant (36 MW), Bejaad (48 MW), El Hajeb (36 MW) and Ain Beni Mathar (184 MW), according to official documents. The given capacity is in direct current (DC).

Winning bidders are expected to be announced in the second quarter, while the contracts are due to be signed in the third or fourth quarter of 2021, MASEN said previously.

The call for projects follows a call for expressions of interest (EoIs) held last year. It is part of Morocco’s Noor solar programme that was introduced back in 2009 with the goal of adding at least 2 GW of solar PV across the country.
