The Municipality of Aradippou in Cyprus has announced a tender for the construction of a 2.96 MW solar PV project in the region and is looking for interested EPC contractors to send their bids.

According to the tender call, the project is estimated to cost €3.37 million. Broad scope of work includes construction and installation of this capacity. The winner will be selected on the basis of lowest tariff offered.

The tender call was launched on March 30, 2023, and the last date to submit bids is May 12, 2023.

According to local news portal Cyprus Mail, this 2.96 MW project is funded by the European Union under its THALIA 2021-2027 program as part of the Cohesion Policy Funds. It constitutes a budget of €1.81 billion, out of which €968 million comes from the EU Cohesion Policy Funds and the remaining €842 million from Cyprus’ government.

Cyprus targets renewable energy to account for a minimum of 22.9% share in the national final energy consumption by 2030, up from 9.8% in 2019 as per the European Commission. For the electricity sector, the country aims the renewables share to increase to 30.3%, while the heating and cooling sector’s target is 39.4% and in the transport sector renewables should increase to 14%.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) says Cyprus had installed 464 MW solar PV capacity till the end of 2022.
