Thiruvananthapuram : Around one-third of the total energy requirements of the KSCSTE – NATPAC building at Akkulam will now be met using the rooftop solar plant. Minister for power K Krishnankutty will inaugurate the solar plant at the NATPAC campus on Wednesday.

The trial run of the plant has been going on for the last three months.

Energy management centre has done an energy audit of the building and the report will also be released on Wednesday. Major portions of the audit report will be presented at the function.

“We are going through a situation where the current power generation is not enough to fully meet the growing energy needs of the state. KSCSTE – NATPAC has joined with the state government efforts to promote green and renewable energy technology in line with the UN sustainable development goals. Realizing the need for government sector institutions to shift towards energy self-sufficiency under the said circumstances, a 20 kW solar panel has been installed at the rooftop of the headquarters campus of KSCSTE-NATPAC at Akkulam with the co-operation of agency for new and renewable energy research and technology (ANERT) with an aim to reduce the current electricity consumption, “said Samson Mathew, director, NATPAC.

During the trial run, the authorities were able to record savings up to Rs 30,000 per month in electricity bills.

A panel discussion on the topic ‘clean and green energy towards sustainable transportation’ will be held at 10am on Wednesday. NATPAC had submitted a report titled ‘digital and clean mobility’ to the state planning board in 2022.

The ideas that emerge out of the panel discussion will be compiled and submitted to the state planning board.
