Leading Light Wind, a partnership between Invenergy LLC and energyRe LLC, and a venture of France’s TotalEnergies (EPA:TTE) and Corio Generation are the winners in New Jersey’s third offshore wind solicitation.

The two entities have been awarded a total capacity of 3,742 MW, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) said on Wednesday. Their projects represent a combined economic benefit of some USD 6.8 billion to New Jersey, supporting the state’s goal for a 100% clean energy economy by 2035.

Leading Light Wind was successful in the competition with its proposal to build an up-to-2,400-MW wind farm around 40 miles off the coast of New Jersey. Once in operation, it is expected to generate electricity for up to one million households annually. An option is included for installing 253 MW of battery energy storage capacity, as well.

Meanwhile, Attentive Energy LLC will construct a 1,342-MW park, called Attentive Energy Two, in federal waters over 42 miles east of Seaside Heights. The complex should be capable of powering more than 600,000 homes.

NJBPU launched the state’s third offshore wind tender last March to award between 1.2 GW and 4 GW of capacity. It now estimates that the two winning projects will have a monthly bill impact on residential customers of around USD 6.84 (EUR 6.28).

Both of the selected candidates will support the construction of a tower production facility at the New Jersey Wind Port and will source monopiles from a new local factory.

Among the other competitors in the round three tender were joint ventures of RWE and National Grid, and Shell and EDF.
