NLCIL installs solar units at 7 offices, each to generate 1MW


Cuddalore: NLC India Limited has installed solar power units at the open terrace of the seven office buildings in Neyveli at a cost of Rs 5.49 crore with the support of Union new and renewable energy ministry. NLCIL contributed Rs 4.12 crore for the project while the ministry extended 25% subsidy for the project.

NLCIL chairman and managing director (additional charge) and director (finance) Rakesh Kumar formally inaugurated one of the units commissioned at the central technical office (CTO) building on Friday.

The units commissioned over the public relations (PR) department building and guest house were commissioned on Saturday.

The company will commission the rest of the projects by the end of this month. All the units will generate 1MW solar power.

The company decided to install solar panels over the open terrace of the office buildings to increase generation of solar power.

The company under the first phase installed solar panels at the corporate office, CTO, PR office, guest house, mines’ administrative office, material management complex and township administrative building.

Enrich Energy, Pune executed the projects through Rajasthan electronic and instruments limited (REIL), Jaipur, the implementing agency for the Union coal ministry.

The Union government’s national solar mission envisages installing 1.75 lakhMW power projects through the renewable energy sector by 2025. NLCIL has proposed to play a vital role in achieving the mission’s objective by generating 4,251-MW solar and wind power.

The company has already commissioned 491-MW through green energy units installed at Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar districts besides in Neyveli.

The company has begun commissioning 909-MW solar projects at various places in Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram districts.
