The project, initially presented as the Atacama 2 Solar Plant, has an approving RCA for a capacity of 210 MW, which will be expanded to 600 MW. The photovoltaic plant is located in Sierra Gorda, in the Antofagasta region, and the energy production will be equivalent to the supply of more than 550 thousand homes.

The Project submitted for environmental assessment is called “Pampa Unión Solar Plant Expansion” and replaces the capacity of the initial solar thermal plant -Atacama 2- (110 MW) with a 500 MW capacity photovoltaic plant. In this way, the total capacity of the complete Project increases from 210 MW to 600 MW, being the generation solely through photovoltaic energy.

The Project, by increasing the power generation capacity to 600 MW, will inject all the energy produced into the National Electric System (SEN), through an LTE that will connect the plant with the existing Centinela Substation.

Additionally, this project contemplates: The change of layout of the electric transmission line (LTE); The change in the layout of the worksite and camp installation. Also, there is a need to change the name of the Project, originally called “Atacama 2 Solar Plant” and now it is proposed to recognize it as “Pampa Unión Solar Plant”. It is important to mention that the environmental considerations of the original environmental assessment are maintained, with the corresponding updating of the reports that require it, such as the Human Environment, Landscape, Flora – Vegetation and Fauna, Archaeology, Noise, and the Paleontological and Electromagnetic fields to the declaration.

About Cerro Dominador

It is the company that owns the Solar Cerro Dominador complex with a 210 MW capacity, combining a 100 MW photovoltaic plant plus a 110 MW CSP solar thermal plant, which is the first in Latin America. The company, owned by funds managed by EIG Global Energy Partners, seeks to contribute to the transformation of the energy matrix by developing renewable energy projects 24/7.
