The Philippine Department of Energy (DoE) on Wednesday announced an amendment to the schedule for the upcoming renewable energy auction, pushing back by a week all activities preceding the bidding process.
Under the new schedule, the last day of registration of qualified suppliers has been moved to May 19 from May 12, while the evaluation of those applications will now take place between May 22 and May 24, rather than in the period May 15-17. Accordingly, the DoE expects to publish the names of the qualified suppliers on June 1 instead of May 24 and to hold a pre-bid conference on June 6, 2023.
The DoE noted that those who fail to comply with the registration requirements will have two calendar days to file a request for reconsideration.
The energy department invited interested parties to take part in the second round of the country’s Green Energy Auction (GEA) programme in late March. The new auction, called the Green Energy Auction 2 (GEA-2), will offer a total capacity of 11,600 MW, including 3,600 MW for 2024, 3,600 MW for 2025, and 4,400 MW for 2026.
The table below gives more information about the targeted capacity based on the Terms of Reference (TOR) released in mid-April.
Note: Lot 1, 4 and 7 refer to the capacity available in Luzon; Lot 2, 5 and 8 are for Visayas; and Lot 3, 6 and 9 concern Mindanao.

The Philippines held its first green energy auction last spring, awarding 1,490 MW of solar and 374 MW of wind for a success rate of about 98.35%. Local developer Solar Philippines ended up being the biggest winner as it secured 70% of all awards.
The government has set a goal of having a 35% share of renewables in the energy mix by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
