The French government has selected roughly 173 MW of solar projects in the latest tenders for rooftop commercial and industrial (C&I) and ground-mounted capacity, witnessing an increase in prices in both rounds.

The fourth round of the country’s PPE2 multi-year energy procurement programme has resulted in winning bids totalling 58 MW for rooftop C&I installations, data on the Ministry for the Ecological Transition shows. The projects were secured at an average price of EUR 104.52 (USD 115.7) per MWh, up from EUR 90.91/MWh in the previous edition.

The procurement was open to projects involving the installation of photovoltaic (PV) arrays of over 500 kWp. A total of 16 projects emerged as winners, ranging between 700 kW and 19.8 MW. The largest selected proposal envisages the construction of a PV system in Rhone department by Centrale Solaire Helys, a unit of French renewable power producer Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN).

The full list of selected projects is available on the Ministry’s website.

Meanwhile, only seven projects totalling 115 MW were awarded in the third tender period for ground-mounted PV capacity. The average price in the competition came at EUR 82.23/MWh, against EUR 68.51/MWh in the second round.

With the PPE2 initiative, France seeks to allocate almost 29 GW of renewable power generation capacity through 2026. The targets for ground-mounted and rooftop capacity are 9.95 GW and 5.1 GW, respectively.
