Reliance Infra appoints industry veterans for strategic expansion in renewable energy manufacturing – EQ
In Short : Reliance Infrastructure is expanding into renewable energy manufacturing with integrated solar and battery production units. To spearhead this initiative, the company appointed industry veterans Ivan Saha as CEO of Renewable Manufacturing and Mushtaque Hussain as CEO of Battery Manufacturing. This strategic move aims to boost India’s clean energy self-sufficiency and accelerate the country’s green transition.
In Detail : Reliance Infrastructure (popularly known as RInfra), part of the Reliance Group led by top businessman Anil Ambani, is planning a strategic foray into the renewable energy manufacturing space. The company aims to establish integrated solar equipment and battery manufacturing units, marking a significant step in its commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The move is also aligned with global efforts to transition towards clean energy sources.
- Reliance Infrastructure will be setting up a state-of-the-art facility to boost the production of solar panels and components.
- Its integrated battery making unit will focus on developing advanced energy storage solutions for grid applications and electric mobility.
The entry into these two areas will enable the Reliance Group to cover the entire spectrum of renewable energy value chain, enabling the group to offer end-to-end solutions—from renewable energy equipment manufacturing to solar power generation.
This move complements Reliance Power’s efforts given the power generator’s focus on renewable energy generation, further strengthening the group’s overall presence in the sector.
Reliance Infra has appointed industry veterans to spearhead the two new business vertifals:
- Ivan Saha, CEO, Renewable Manufacturing: With more than 30 years of experience in semiconductors, solar technology, and MEMS device design, Ivan Saha is a distinguished expert in the renewable energy sector. As the former CEO of Vikram Solar, he successfully expanded manufacturing capacity and led global business development initiatives. Previously, as CTO at ReNew Power, Saha played a pivotal role in establishing GW-scale solar cell and module manufacturing. He also brings extensive experience from his contributions to ISRO’s indigenous manufacturing and sensor development programs.
- Mushtaque Hussain, CEO, Battery Manufacturing: Mushtaque Hussain brings more than 25 years of expertise in the automotive, renewable energy, consumer electronics, and power tools sectors. He has held key leadership roles in major organisations such as Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Tesla. Before joining RInfra, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the New Energy Division at RIL, where he led innovations in sodium-ion and cobalt-free battery technologies. At Tesla, he was a Senior Manager overseeing the production of three million battery cells daily. His deep expertise in AI/ML-driven manufacturing, battery recycling, and process optimization makes him a seasoned leader in battery manufacturing.
- Dr Shubham Duttagupta, CTO, Solar Manufacturing: Dr Shubham Duttagupta has more than 17 years of expertise in solar technology, industrialization and photovoltaics. Previously, he led the New Energy Business at RIL, playing a key role in large-scale solar cell industrialization. A PhD holder in photovoltaic and microelectronics, he has authored more than 70 publications and holds 18 patents, positioning him as a thought leader in the field.
