In Short : Reliance NU Suntech, a Reliance Power subsidiary, has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with SECI to develop Asia’s largest single-location solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project. Valued at ₹10,000 crore, the project is expected to be completed in 24 months. It marks a major step in India’s renewable energy and storage capacity expansion.

In Detail : Reliance NU Suntech, a subsidiary of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power, has entered into a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This agreement paves the way for the development of Asia’s largest single-location integrated solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project.

The project will involve an investment of up to ₹10,000 crore. It is designed to combine large-scale solar power generation with advanced battery storage capabilities, ensuring continuous and reliable energy supply. This integration addresses the intermittency challenges typically associated with renewable energy sources.

According to a stock exchange filing on May 2, 2025, the project is expected to be completed within 24 months. The timeline reflects an ambitious yet strategic push to accelerate India’s transition to clean and sustainable energy solutions.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India, under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, plays a pivotal role in implementing and promoting renewable energy projects across the country. Its partnership with Reliance NU Suntech reflects a significant public-private collaboration in the green energy sector.

The project’s scale and integrated design are expected to set new benchmarks in renewable energy deployment. By pairing solar generation with battery storage, it will enable round-the-clock clean energy availability and improve grid reliability.

This initiative marks a major milestone for Reliance NU Suntech and positions it as a key player in India’s energy transition. Beyond power generation, the project is anticipated to generate employment, stimulate local infrastructure development, and drive innovation in energy storage technologies.
